Horse flies are a constant nuisance in the Netherlands, especially in the period May - October. When they feed on blood, their aggressive stitches are considered to be very painful for the animals, such as horses, cows, but it is also not pleasant for people. Typical locations where horseflies can be found, stud farms, livestock farms, meadows, amusement parks, lakes / river banks, golf courses, gardens & at large water features. The downfall is easy to install and can be placed without special tools. Tests have shown that a reduction rate of 90–95% of meshes around the H-stage can be achieved. This result is achieved without the use of pesticides or electricity.

The H-trap effectively controls the number of bays and
will limit this to an absolute minimum for the horses. The H-trap bait trap ensures luring, catching and thereby reducing the inconvenience. The H-trap reduces the horse population to an absolute minimum. Tests have shown that a reduction rate of 90–95% of meshes around the H-stage can be achieved. The meshes are mistaken in the centrally placed ball in the H-staircase, they see this as a large animal and fly towards the ball. As soon as they sit on this black ball of the H-trap, they will examine it and try to stab it. After this failed attempt, they will fly away from the H-trap. Because meshes are vertical risers, they can only fly up. The trap is designed in such a way that they fly into the collection system via a conical cap and are guided upwards to the transparent bin.

Optimal use of the H-trap:
  • It is very important that the traps are caught before they reach their prey. Therefore, look at the environment from where the meshes fly. Usually these are more humid areas (banks, ponds & forest edges).
  • View on location if multiple H-trap placements are needed *.
  • We recommend installing the H-trap early in the season (April), but certainly before the adult bugs arrive.
  • Check the funnel every week and clean it with soap and water if necessary.
  • Place the H-stairs at or near the animals.
  • If the H-trap does not catch sufficiently, place the H-trap in a different position if necessary.
